Acupuncture may also help male infertility. A few studies have shown that regular treatments significantly improve sperm counts and motility (the strength with which the sperm swim).
Studies on Male Fertility and Acupuncture
A study published in Fertility and Sterility in 2005, researchers analysed sperm samples from men with infertility of unknown cause before and after acupuncture treatments. They found that acupuncture was associated with fewer structural defects in sperm and an increase in the number of normal sperm.
Another Study conducted by The College Of Shanghai University Of Traditional Chinese Medicine reported that acupuncture was shown to enhance semen quality and quantity of sperm, also the spermatogenic environment improved (indicating by significant decrease of mucosity and liquefaction time) and that equally important, sex hormones were normalised.
From a Chinese medicine perspective, the main causes of male fertility issues fall under two categories:
- Deficiencies in certain areas and also;
- Good blood flow to the pelvic area and other pathogenic factors that may cause stagnation e.g Damp and Heat.
When working on Male fertility issues we also look at lifestyle, diet and supplements as great improvement can be made in just this area alone.
