Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine disorders. There is strong evidence to suggest that it is a genetic disease, often other female members of same family e.g. mothers or sisters may suffer.
PCOS may produce symptoms in about 5% to 10% of women of childbearing age and is one of the leading problems causing fertility issues. Some of the principle features of PCOS are irregular or extra long cycles, often without ovulation; there may be raised levels of testosterone and insulin resistance, leading to high cholesterol or type 2 diabetes.
Acupuncture and Nutritional Advice play important roles when treating PCOS. I offer special Nutritional Advice and Acupuncture to help balance hormones and regulate periods, often using Electro Acupuncture, to help stimulate a bleed.
Vitamin D3 is essential. Patients may be prescribed Clomid to induce ovulation and also Metformin to reduce insulin. Vitamin C 500 mg may help whilst taking Clomid. Acupuncture works in conjunction with, and to compliment western medical advice.
